Colwyn Bay Library
We first opened our doors to the public in April 1905 to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII. The cost of building the library was met by the public, including the generous sponsor Andrew Carnegie, who donated £3,800 – that’s more than £400,000 in today’s money!
Our children’s library opened in 1933, and the building was extended in 1962. We also had a major refurbishment in 2016.

At Colwyn Bay Library you can:
- Enjoy free access to public computers, including Microsoft Office
- Log in to our free Wi-Fi
- Print, scan or photocopy documents
- Hire a community room
- Bring your family to the children’s library
- Use a microfilm reader to look at old newspapers
- Look through our local history section, including books, maps and directories
We also have regular events, including:
- Story time for the under-5s
- IT taster sessions
- Reading groups
The library has access for the disabled, including a lift, as well as a Hearing Induction Loop and Boardmaker educational software.
We have an ideal town centre location, with a bus stop nearby on Abergele Road, and there is some on-street parking.
We have a public toilet with baby-changing facilities on the ground floor, as well as disabled toilets on the first floor.
